Hello, we are Gerlinda and Dieter Sokoll. Gerlinda is Filipina and Dieter is German. Since the KNIGHTS OF RIZAL have bestowed the knighthood on Dieter in Decemter 2017, he is called Sir Dieter and with this privilege comes, that Gerlinda is called Lady Gerlinda. Close family and friends call her Gerlyn. We are living in the City of Cagayan de Oro, the city of Golden Friendship. This is our blog, where we post our photos, videos and stories about family, life, travels and our LOLA GERLINDA'S FLOWER SHOP. The reason for this is, that Gerlinda's Hobby shifted from raising pigs to plants and flowers. Because of African Swine Fever she had to stop raising pigs. We both love dogs. That's the reason why a few large dogs are family to us. There are the the German Shepard ladies Bouney and Daisy and our young mixed boy Bravo, daughter of Bouney, who has a Belgian Shepard Malinois as father and is lightly handicapped. At the other end of the house we are having some local cats, they adopted us or we the cats, who knows.

GERLINDA & DIETER - Our bottle feeding piglets Tom & Jerry Foto by Sir Dieter Sokoll

Not every time everything goes right.

We could see it coming, that there would be some problems with the birth-giving of our Lourdes. The teats were to much marked, to big in an early stadium

Birth came and started with two death births. There came three more piglets but in intervals of more than 2 hours – an abnormal behaviour.

One was a very, very small and more fragile and tiny piglet. It didn’t survive.

The milk got somewhat hard.

We decided to slaughter our saw Lourdes before it would be too late. The two male piglets became orphaned and they are now bottle-fed by Gerlinda.

We named them Tom & Jerry (Tom is the white one and Jerry the coloured one). Today they are 2 1/2 weeks old.

Our pigs need a place for fattening.

We want for 10 saws each to have a pigsty for herself. That’s almost done and need only some changes, but we have to build a place for the young ones until they are ready to become lechon or for slauthering and to become LOLA GERLINDA’S HOMEMADE FOOD PRODUCTS like tasteful Longanzina, Tocino or Burger Patties.

The very old and first pigsties to the left have been converted to have space to prepare two lechons at once. Beside it is a workplace to prepare the feeds and other purposes.

Here are the construction materials and lets begin.

In our neighbourhood living people from some tribes in Bukidnon.

There were a gathering and ritual in January this year and we joined. The tribe people wore their traditional dresses.

The tribal gathering and ritual were held up in the mountains of Malasag overlooking the lights of the city of Cagayan de Oro in a forested area at the edge of canyon of the Bigaan river.

The Bigaan river marks the border between the barangays Gusa and Cugman.

Franz, who lives in our compound, was also there and there were some talks about to get him married with this tribeswoman with the big rolled tabacco leaf in her mouth.

I don’t know, how serious the talk was or just more on the funny side. Anyway, a visit from Franz by the tribespeople didn’t push through, because on that night Franz lost his wallet with his credit card (It was after a few days found inside the van in a folded back seat.)

Later in the evening after the ritual we joined a simple meal togehter with them.

Our pigs living in a kind of jungle garden. For the litter we use sawdust. The sawdust we get once a week from a sawmill in the neighbour barangay in sacks.

Sometimes the kids from the neighbourhood love to come along and help.

Getting sawdust from the sawmill
It’s not so easy to pack
Hahaha he can’t carry two sacks at once

At the end of the day, there is a brand new shed for another saw to move in.

A new home for another saw
